The Victor and Barry Virtual Museum

Welcome to the Victor and Barry Virtual Museum. The aim of the museum is to house items of interest not only to Victor and Barry fans but also to non-fans who are are still wondering what all the fuss is about. While the number of items in the collection is presently small, the curators would like to see it develop into an interesting resource, so virtual contributions to the museum are most welcome. Send us a medium resolution (eg 200dpi) scan of the item along with an explanation of how you came about having it; what it means to you; any stories attached to the item. Contact the virtual curator.

Ticket. This ticket gained entry to the second-last Victor and Barry concert in Australia in April 1989. The first night house was full to capacity. Unfortunately the second night (ie their last Australian concert) was not so full. At one stage before the show, Alan asked me how many people were in the audience. Avoiding the issue, I said that there was "a reasonable number", to which Alan replied "Is there something you're not telling me?" After extracting the attendance details from me, Alan and Forbes formulated a plan to take the audience out to dinner and entertain them there. Sadly for those who might have been part of this only slightly tongue in cheek plan, more audience members turned up, necessitating the duo giving a regular show.

Album. "Hear Victor and Barry and Faint" was their first and, as far as we know, their only official album. Containing some live audio from early concert performances, the album caught Victor and Barry both at home in their bijou apartment-ette in Kelvinside and in the studio. It contains some classic Victor and Barry numbers, some of which were translated into Australian for their 1989 Australian tour. It also includes several witty straying-from-the-points that V&B were famous for such as at the end of the tape: "Turn over now." "But I haven't got my tummy tanned yet". "I meant turn over the tape, you stupid man."

Promotional Postcard. Forbes and Alan gave out this promotional postcard to people they met on their tour of Australia in 1989. Don't they look young! Well, heck, it was more than ten years ago.

Record. Victor and Barry's "very small record". Given out as a promotional item for their 1989 Australian tour, the 7 inch vinyl record contained items from V&B's "Hear Victor and Barry and Faint" album. The record was 33rpm, not 45rpm as you might think by its size. Every time Alan and Forbes handed it over at a radio station they had to warn the DJ to set the speed correctly: "We've been to radio stations where they've put it on 45 and we sound like Pinky and Perky."

Press release. This press release promotes the second last and last concert Victor and Barry ever performed in Australia, at a place called Rockhampton in Queensland. With only a few press clippings and a couple of pics for publicity, the difficulty was trying to tell people about the guys without making them seem naff and unfunny. How funny could two Scottish thespians discussing their theatrical reminiscences be? Well, very funny as the full house first night found out. "Don't clap on your own madam, someone will throw you a fish."
